Who we are

Information we collect

• Account information, such as your name, email address, user ID, selected learning language, translation language, and subscription status.
• Purchase information. For Premium+ bought on the website, Paddle, our reseller, shares with us your email address, country, subscription status, and the amounts and dates of payments; we never receive your full card details. For purchases in the apps, Apple or Google share the purchase and subscription status.
• Authentication information that you provide when signing in. Passwords are used for authentication and are not stored by the browser extension.
• Learning content that you add or select, such as words, phrases, translations, lesson progress, training answers, mistakes, saved words, and imported text.
• Website content that you intentionally select when using the GoNative browser extension, such as a word or phrase you choose to save, or longer selected text you choose to upload to My texts.
• Usage information related to app functionality, such as save actions, selected feature, training progress, error states, and device or platform type.
• Technical information needed to operate the service, such as browser, device, language, time zone, and network request data.

How we use information

• To provide language-learning features, including dictionary lookup, saved words, lessons, repetition, exercises, and progress tracking.
• To authenticate your account, keep you signed in, and sync your language settings across GoNative services.
• To process selected words and phrases from the browser extension and save them to your GoNative vocabulary list.
• To improve reliability, prevent abuse, debug errors, and understand which features are used.
• To provide customer support and respond to requests.
• To provide Premium+, manage subscriptions and refunds, and prevent payment fraud.

Legal bases

• Performance of a contract: to create and run your account, provide learning features and Premium+, and manage subscriptions.
• Legitimate interests: to keep GoNative secure and reliable, prevent abuse and fraud, fix errors, and understand how features are used, where your rights do not override these interests.
• Consent: for analytics cookies and similar technologies. You can withdraw consent at any time in Cookie settings.
• Legal obligations: to keep records and respond to authorities where the law requires it.

Cookies and analytics

With your consent, GoNative uses Google Analytics and its own analytics to understand page visits, feature use, and outbound links. These tools may use cookies, local storage, and pseudonymous identifiers and may process page and referrer URLs, language, device or browser information, and a hashed IP address. Analytics cookies and similar technologies stay off until you accept them. You can reject them or withdraw consent at any time through Cookie settings. A necessary preference cookie remembers your choice for up to 12 months. Separately, GoNative may keep coarse daily page counts and non-identifying outbound action records without cookies or persistent identifiers; these records omit referrers, IP addresses, user-agent data, and URL query parameters.

Browser extension data

The GoNative browser extension reads selected text only after you take an action, such as using the context menu or shortcut. The selected text is sent to the GoNative API to search the dictionary, save the word or phrase, or upload longer selected text to My texts. The extension stores your session, language settings, preferences, and recent save history locally in your browser.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information and do not use it for advertising. We share it only as needed to run GoNative:

• Service providers that process data on our behalf, such as hosting, analytics, authentication, and customer support providers. They may use it only to provide their services to us.
• Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record for purchases on the website. Paddle processes payment, billing, and tax data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.
• Apple and Google, when you buy Premium+ in the apps or sign in with their accounts, under their privacy policies.
• Professional advisers, and authorities or courts where the law requires it.

International transfers

Some of our providers, such as Google and Paddle, may process data outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Where the law requires it, these transfers rely on safeguards such as an adequacy decision or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Storage and retention

• Account and learning data are kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, it is deactivated right away, and 30 days later we erase your personal data: your name, email, sign-in details, messages, and the content you added, such as texts, books, and your own words. Anonymized statistics that no longer identify you, and subscription and payment records, are kept.
• Subscription and payment records are kept as long as needed for accounting, tax, refunds, and disputes.
• Analytics data is collected only with your consent and kept according to the retention settings of the analytics tools.
• Technical logs are kept for a limited time to keep GoNative secure and fix errors.
• Local browser extension data stays until you sign out, clear the extension storage, or uninstall the extension.

Security

We protect data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and by limiting who can access it. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to protect your information and fix problems quickly.

Your rights

• You can update your account and language settings and delete saved words and learning content in GoNative where supported. You can uninstall the browser extension at any time.
• Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the UK, you have the right to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time.
• To use these rights, contact us through the contact form. We will respond within one month.
• You can also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country or with the Portuguese authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD).

Children

GoNative is not intended for children under the age required by applicable law to use online services without parental consent.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
